Short Description of the Method of Instruction

The video, the written materials and the interactive online test follow the same outline.  Please see the brochure for the synopsis and chapters of the video and the attached Table of Contents for the outline of the subject matter of the program.

The Patents Video TM is a high quality scripted video intended to make the otherwise dry subject matter of Patent Law interesting and engaging.  The instructor, Paula N. Chavez plays herself.  Actors play the clients and supporting roles.  There was substantial monetary and time expense in producing the video.

The participant will view a 32 minute video.  After that, the participant will take a 28 minute interactive online test including 38 questions.  The test includes multiple choice and true/false questions.  Each question will presented individually.  If the participate chooses the correct answer, the next question will appear.  If the participate chooses the wrong answer, the portion of the text of the written materials (which the participant would have previously downloaded) will appear on the computer screen along with the question.  The participant will have another opportunity to choose an answer.  This process will repeat itself until the participant chooses the correct answer.  In this way, the participant will obtain a minimum competency in the presented subject matter.

About fifteen percent of the questions of the test are not answered in the video. Therefore, the participant may answer these questions incorrectly, and will be required to read certain sections of the written materials during the test taking process.

Description of the Handout Materials

The handout materials are 28 pages in length.  The handout materials follow the same outline as the video.  The handout materials are available for download prior to the video streaming of the video.

Conclusion

Viewing the video takes 32 minutes. The online interactive test takes 28 minutes to complete.  Accordingly, there are 60 minutes of instruction, equivalent to the 1 hour CLE credit hour requested.
